Today’s full moon is a special one in the Vedic system – it is Guru Purnima. This sacred day is a time to honor our teachers and the wisdom they impart; it is when we bow to the teachers that have had an impact on us and who inspired us to be what we are today. These teachers are many and varied: some are in the physical form and some are not; some we work with daily and some we only briefly met – but all of them have touched us deeply.
In fact, it is thought that it is our karmic duty to pay respect to our teachers and gurus – not just today, but every day. In my puja room at home, I have a special corner that is dedicated to my teachers. There sits an altar with photos of some of the teachers I have worked with and that are near and dear to my heart. Honoring them daily helps me to remember where I have come from and where I am going, and inspires me to continue learning. Over the years as I have deepened my studies of the Vedic sciences, I have always said that the more I learn, the less I know…so I stay as close as I can to those who spread the light.
To those who continue to teach me and help me grow, I humbly bow.
Shri Gurubhyo Namaha.
